One-Year Mark

Dear Family and Friends,

Today is a very special day for us, as exactly one year ago Patrick and I departed Washington for the Dhabs! Well, for those of you that know the real story, I departed a day after Patrick, but that's a small point... :) We can't believe how quickly the year has gone by. And to think that for almost half of it, we moved from hotel to hotel, hoping and praying that the apartment would be finished.

Well, I can say now that we are happy and healthy and completely settled in. We lucked out with our apartment and are the proud owners of a whole new set of IKEA furniture. We have made wonderful friends from around the world and continue to meet new people as the population continues to boom. We have hosted several visitors so far, and hope to have even more in the coming year. We are both enjoying our jobs and have great colleagues to boot.

Tomorrow is also an important day, as December 2nd marks the date that the UAE was established as a federation, 37 years ago. There will be many celebrations starting tonight and going for the rest of the week. In fact, George Michael and Alicia Keys are in concert tonight.

We had a great visit with Patrick's mom last week, and will try to post pictures and details very soon!! In the meantime, here is a picture of us at the Marine Corps Ball, and at brunch with family friends who recently visited Abu Dhabi and Oman.

Hey...just came across your blog by accident!!

Very nicely written note on your 1st anniversary in UAE. I guess its an important milestone (mine was several years ago!!) and experience of settling can at times get you 'un-settled' :-)

Cheers... here's to another wonderful year in UAE. Another wonderful year of Abu Dhabling....
